Cilgerran From the Castle, make your way to the main road through Cilgerran where you will find a range of useful facilities including post office, pubs, cafés and shops. Extract from The Teifi Valley Trail Guide (due to be published in 2026): “Cilgerran Castle is a spectacularly sited castle with its two great round towers looming high above the deep gorge of the River Teifi. In the early 12th century an earth and timber castle was built on the current site by the Norman, Gerald of Windsor. In the subsequent century it changed hands between the Norman-English and the Welsh, including in 1165, when the Lord Rhys of Deheubarth captured both Cilgerran and Cardigan Castles. Eventually it was captured by William Marshal of Pembroke and his successors rebuilt the castle from the early 13th century – this is the design you see today. It is possible to climb the stone stairs up to the higher rooms and for stunning gorge views. Fireplaces can be seen perched precariously high up in the walls.” Post Office and Grocery Store – High Street, Cilgerran, SA43 2SG Pub – Cardiff Arms – High St, Cilgerran, SA43 2SQ Pub – Masons Arms (also known as Rampin) – Cwnce, Cilgerran, SA43 2SR Café next to Cardiff Arms Toilets (lower car park by river) Bus route 430 between Narberth and Cardigan calls at Cilgerran
