Henllan Henllan offers some interesting facilities which might tempt you off the trail for a visit. The village is approx 500 yds from Henllan Bridge. From 1943 – 1946 Italian Prisoners of War were held at Henllan Bridge Prison of War Camp 70. During the day, prisoners were escorted to work on local farms. Inside the camp, one of the dormitory huts was renovated by the prisoners into a Catholic church, Capel Eidalwyr, and is the only surviving example of a POW decorated church on the British mainland. Visits can be arranged in advance and for further information see the Facebook page @ henllanbridgepow70 Another feature of interest at Henllan is the TEIFI VALLEY RAILWAY. The railway station dates from July 1895 when the GWR opened the Llandysul – Newcastle Emlyn extension. The line closed to passenger trains in 1952 but goods traffic continued until 1973 when the line was dismantled. In 1981 a group of railway enthusiasts bought the track bed between Henllan and Pontprenshitw, and laid a 2-ft gauge track as a tourist line. For further information see their website teifivalleyrailway.wales. Also in Henllan is a winery with a bistro and shop as well as a small gallery from local artist Diane Mathias.
